Privacy Policy

MyBookShelf is built to be privacy-first. We do not sell your data. A deployment may enable optional diagnostics (crash/error reporting) to fix bugs, and optional product analytics to understand feature usage. Product analytics are opt-in and can be controlled in Settings.

Affiliate / Referral Links

If we show purchase links for recommended books, some links may be affiliate/referral links. If you choose to buy through those links, we may receive a commission from the retailer. We do not receive your payment details from the retailer.

Data We Store

• Account info: email and username.
• Your library data: books, shelves, tags, notes, quotes, loans, and related metadata.
• Auth data: password hash (if you use email/password) and refresh token hashes.

Friends & Visibility

Friends features are opt-in. Shelf visibility is controlled per shelf (Private, Friends, Public). Friends only get read-only access to shelves you explicitly make visible.

Activity Sharing (Opt-In)

If you enable the activity feed, the app may share selected activity events (e.g., started/finished books, ratings, shared quotes) with your friends or publicly depending on your chosen default visibility. You can disable this at any time.

AI Recommendations

If recommendations are available on your server, the server may send minimal inputs (such as top authors and recent titles) to the configured model provider to generate suggestions.

Export / Deletion

You can export your data at any time from the Data tools page. For account deletion, contact the operator of the deployment (self-hosted deployments can delete directly from the database).
